The PIHOA Pacific Basin Primary Care Office
HRSA funds the PIHOA Pacific Basin Primary Care Office (PB-PCO) to serve as the proxy primary care office (PCO) for the six USAPIs. Among the five key responsibilities of the PB-PCO is accurately assessing unmet needs in the Pacific Region. One such unmet need is the persistent shortage of health care providers (HCPs) in the USAPI.
To understand the extent of the HCP shortage, the PB-PCO, in partnership with PBMA, is conducting a Health Provider Survey.
Currently, most health providers from Palau and Chuuk have completed this survey. We humbly ask HCPs from RMI, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap to complete this Health Provider Survey.
Role of the Pacific Basin Health Provider Survey
The results of the health provider survey will give PBMA and other regional key stakeholders information on the number of available health providers in each jurisdiction across the USAPI. This data is essential for assessing the extent of health provider shortage in the region. Furthermore, the results will provide evidence-based support for the re-establishment of a Pacific Basin Medical Officers Training Program.
