The Pacific Basin Medical Association (PBMA) represents medical health professionals in the U.S.-affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI), comprising American Samoa (AS), the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), the Federated States of Micronesia (consisting of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap), Guam, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), and Palau.
The PBMA was initially incorporated on December 05, 1993, as a Palau Nonprofit Corporation, and was re-registered as Pacific Basin Medical Association, Inc., under the Palau Nonprofit Corporations Act of 2021, on April 07, 2025.
The PBMA aims to provide information to the USAPI regional medical associations, PBMA members, healthcare providers, and the general public related to medicine and public health, and to establish guidelines for professional conduct and performance in meeting the health needs of their communities.
This year, PBMA proudly recruited new medical school and internship/residency program graduates from Chuuk (Dr. Dalina, Dr. Tavo, pictured above), RMI (Dr. Kyle & others), and Yap (Dr. Edilyong Jr.).

The PBMA Logo
The emblem representing the Pacific health workforce is rich with symbolism, drawing from elements deeply rooted in Pacific culture and geography. Each component of the design has been carefully selected to reflect the region's key values, aspirations, and connections.
A plant adorned with many leaves serves as a powerful symbol of growth, renewal, and nurturing. This element represents the ongoing development and flourishing of the Pacific health workforce, emphasizing a commitment to supporting and cultivating talent within the region.
The ocean wave signifies the Pacific Basin, highlighting the vast expanse of waters that link all island jurisdictions. This element highlights the interconnectedness of Pacific communities and the shared environment that unites them.
The stars featured in the emblem represent navigation, guidance, and a collective regional direction. They draw on the Pacific tradition of wayfinding and symbolize the shared journey toward common goals among the region's healthcare professionals.
Roots are depicted to reflect a grounding in culture, community, and regional solidarity. This aspect of the emblem honors the deep connections to heritage and the importance of standing together as a unified community.
A zigzag border, inspired by traditional design motifs found across the Pacific, frames the emblem. It represents the unity of diverse Pacific communities, all working together under a shared mission.
Our mission is to establish a unified network of healthcare professionals across the Pacific region, enhancing healthcare standards and public health policies. We are committed to ongoing education for medical professionals and empowering local medical associations.
Together, we harmonize efforts among practitioners from American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and Palau, with the aspiration to include other Pacific Island nations. This collaboration will foster a healthier future for all.
